The New Year has arrived and we can all start a new relationship with Nature. Start small and take a walk with a family member or friend. Here are a few places you can take a walk in our regions. Nature walks are good because when we connect with nature it can improve blood pressure, boost mental health, decrease cancer risk and fight depression. These activities will give you a chance to reconnect with family, friends and the environment all at the same time!

Austin: Pedernales Falls State Park. Start the new year off with a walk through the beautiful wilderness! It’s a new year! Let’s start it off 2020 the right way. Walking through beautiful Hill Country and river front

Caprock: Lake Colorado State Park. New Year, New Trail! Start with a beautiful 2-mile guided walk over moderate terrain on their brand new Roadrunner Loop Trail. You can see some fantastic lake views, so bring your camera and binoculars!

Coastal Bend: Port Aransas Nature Preserve. Explore the Nature Preserve at Charlie’s Pasture as you have never seen it before. A guide will lead you to discover the wildlife throughout the preserve Saturday mornings at 8.

Houston: Houston Arboretum & Nature Center. Come by the Center and enter the 2020 New Year’s Walking Challenge where you could qualify to win a free Arboretum membership.

North Texas: Tyler State Park. Start the New Year off right with a new walk and a new hobby. Get outdoors for your New Year’s Resolution and try new things. Come to Tyler State Park for a birding watching walk. Walks begin at 9 am.

San Antonio: Enchanted Rock State National Park. Want to get a jump start on your New Year’s resolutions? Join a park ranger on a hike to the top of the Enchanted Rock! Along the way, you’ll learn about the geology, history and biology of this special place. Morning walks start at 9:30 am, afternoon at 2:30pm.

Pineywoods: Mission Tejas State Park. If New Year’s morning comes too early, come leg it a little later on! Make a resolution to be a good steward for Texas State Parks and start it off right from day one. Walks begin at 1 pm.

Rio Grande Valley: Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. Walk around near the butterfly garden where there's often lots of animal activity or near the headquarters building that overlooks the birdfeeders.
