Picnic in a Park this December

The Holidays are upon us. It’s the time of year for being with family and friends, for giving back, and for remembering all that we are thankful for. In the thick of this Holiday season, a picnic in a park near you can be a fun and refreshing way to spend time together. Here are a few places you can picnic in our regions. These parks offer lots of fun recreational opportunities, too!

  • Austin: Pease District Park. This park is part of the Shoal Creek Greenbelt and provides you and your family with many options for a picnic. You can also enjoy miles of trails, recreational areas, and a playground.
  • Caprock: Caprock Canyon State Park. Head on over to the Park and have a picnic at Lake Theo alongside the Texas State Bison herd!
  • Coastal Bend: Mustang Island State Park. Mustang Island State Park boasts five miles of beach in the beautiful Coastal Bend Region of Texas. Enjoy a picnic at one of their shade shelters, and take the day to go fishing and enjoy the sunshine.
  • Houston: Hermann Park. This is a great place for a casual picnic and leisurely strolls with the family. You can enjoy the Jones Reflection Pool and McGovern Lake, as well as the Japanese Garden or the 2-mile Marvin Taylor Trail.
  • North Texas: White Rock Lake Park. This park is 5 miles northeast of downtown Dallas and one of the most popular parks in Dallas. Take a trip White Rock Lake and enjoy a picnic alongside the park’s urban wildlife.
  • San Antonio: Brackenridge Park. The park is home to a stretch of the San Antonio River, the Japanese Tea Garden, Sunken Garden Theater, the San Antonio Zoo, Lambert Beach and Tony "Skipper" Martinez ball fields. Come out for a picnic and enjoy the trails, fishing and many other recreational opportunities.
  • Pineywoods: The East Texas Arboretum and Botanical Society. Plan a picnic here and take the day to discover acres upon acres of wooded beauty, trees, flowers, and wildlife. Walk two miles of woodland trails and make your way along winding, spring-fed streams connected by suspension bridge.
  • Rio Grande Valley: Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. Picnic here near the butterfly garden where there's often lots of animal activity or near the headquarters building that overlooks the birdfeeders.
